Standard pallets

The UK standard pallet measures 1200mm by 1000mm. It fits neatly in British lorries and most warehouse racking. If you are not sure which size your site uses, our guide to the standard wooden pallet size explains every common size in simple terms.

Euro pallets

Euro pallets are the same length as standard pallets but 200mm narrower, at 1200mm by 800mm. They are popular with businesses that send goods to Europe, as they fit European lorries and systems well.

Heat-treated pallets

If you are sending goods to another country, you will often need heat-treated pallets. These are heated to kill any pests hiding in the wood, then stamped with a special mark. The UK government explains the rules in its guidance on importing and exporting wood packaging material. Without the right stamp, your shipment could be held up or turned away at the border.

Plastic pallets

Plastic pallets are easy to wash and do not soak up water. This makes them a good choice for food, medicines and other places where everything must stay very clean.

Grade A or Grade B: Which Should You Choose?

Most of the pallets businesses buy are used pallets. These are sorted into grades based on how they look and how well they are made.

Grade A standard pallets are in the best condition. The boards are clean and strong, with little or no damage. They are ideal when pallets will be seen by customers, used in racking, or carry food and drink.

Grade B pallets have been used a little more. They may have marks or small repairs, but they are still safe and strong. They are a great choice for storage, moving goods around your own site, or one-way deliveries where looks do not matter.

A simple way to decide is to ask yourself one question: will anyone outside my business see these pallets? If yes, choose Grade A. If no, Grade B can save you money.

Things to Think About Before You Buy

Before you place an order, it helps to check a few things:

Can’t Find the Size You Need?

Some jobs need a pallet that is not a standard shape. If you cannot see the size you want, we can make bespoke pallets to order. These are often used for machinery, glass and printing work, where the load has an unusual size or weight.
